Essentials for the Week - September 5

Posted Wednesday, September 5, 2007

This week the teachers are emphasizing expectations related to movement around the building. In order to minimize distractions for others, students are asked to walk in single file lines, with their hands at their sides and eyes looking forward at all times. While this is something that is often presumed, clarifying and restating the expectation provides students with a better understanding and helps to maintain an organized and calm environment. This expectation applies to students as they move throughout the building, with the exception of middle school students during change of classes on the second floor. Students in the middle school are extended three minutes of free movement to visit their lockers, restrooms, water fountain, etc. Additionally, we are continuing to encourage respect for all adults by asking students to respond to teachers and staff by name or with the response, “Yes, Sir” or “Yes, M’am”, etc.
