PRINCIPAL FLYS HIGH FOR READING!Posted Thursday, June 14, 2007
All Saints Catholic School in Manassas, VA had a spectacular event in celebration of students reaching their reading goal for the year as OPERATION READ 11,000 concluded. On June 12 at 1:45 Principal Dave Conroy flew by Helicopter landing in the school parking lot! The students thought they are gathering for the annual Faculty/Staff volleyball game against the 8th graders....but Mr. Conroy dressed in full aviation gear surprised the students with this BIG ENTRANCE. The students have been reading books and taking tests on the books that they have read to earn points for the school in OPERATION READ 11,000 (an aviation theme reading program promoted by the library)! The reading computer program calculated that All Saints students have read over 87 million words this school year! WOW After Mr. Conroy addressed the students, they lined up to make the number 11,000 and he took off again in the helicopter for an aerial photograph of the student body forming the number 11,000! As the students watched in amazement Mr. Conroy hovered over the crowd. What a great way to end the year! Flying High FOR Reading! Hope you can find space for these pictures or story...I know this time of the year, a light hearted school piece might be useful for filler. Please let me know if you are interested |
