With the November 3rd elections behind us, the voting part of faithful citizenship has “ended,” but the advocacy part now “begins” in earnest.
The Virginia Catholic Conference is now ramping up for the 2010 Virginia General Assembly Session. As part of these preparations, my staff and I have sought input from parish representatives across the state regarding ways to stimulate grassroots advocacy. Particular interest was expressed in having regional meetings for those eager to expand legislative advocacy in their local parish communities.
Thus far, three VCC parish points-of-contact have already volunteered to host events and have set dates for them:
Roanoke: Friday, November 13, 10:00 A.M, Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church
Arlington: Wednesday, November 18, 7:00 P.M., St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church
Richmond: Thursday, November 19, 7:00 P.M., St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church
If one of these meetings is convenient for you and you would like to attend, please RSVP via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org by Saturday, November 7th (include your name, your parish, and the event you plan to attend). If you live in other areas of the Commonwealth, additional such events are anticipated in the coming months. Please stay tuned for additional gatherings that we hope to schedule in coordination with other parish leaders.
